From Lemons to Leather: Fibrenew Welcomes Family Man Hank Weinstein

For forty years, Hank Weinstein excelled as a top level manager in the food service distribution industry, moving throughout Texas managing multimillion dollar companies and leading hundreds of employees. It was a fine career for him and his family (Hank is the proud father of six daughters), and satisfying enough. But Weinstein is not one to settle for “enough” — he always had a desire to leave the corporate world and apply his skills towards an enterprise that would give him greater fulfillment. He’d reached as high as he could possibly go in his career, but was not ready to dial in his retirement.

Thinking he’d purchase a fast food/casual brick and mortar franchise, Weinstein serendipitously came upon Fibrenew, the leader of leather, plastic and vinyl restoration and repair, after unintentionally filling out an application for exploration — an occurrence he couldn’t be more happy with. “The more and more I talked with the franchise development coordinator, Bob Johnston, the more positive our talks became,” he laughs. “What got me even more interested in Fibrenew was how Bob got my wife involved.” Weinstein explains that after decades of moving around and busting his butt for large corporations, having a family-centric franchise to his name made better sense as the exploration progressed. Having Johnson include Tammy, Weinstein’s wife of 22 years, in these discussions was a big component of his transition to Fibrenew.

That, and meeting other Fibrenew entrepreneurs. Weinstein did a ride along with Craig Burton of Fibrenew Metro Austin and really got the day-to-day feel of how to tackle a territory, handle the administration and apply the patented hands-on techniques Fibrenew customers appreciate. “I rode along to see how he did it all. We did a few jobs together, and he had me on the spray guns, and I was texturizing … and I thought, ‘Hey, I really like this!’” Continue reading here!

Couple’s Franchise Success Story with Fibrenew

We recently interviewed Stephanie and Warren Rosenthal, the dynamic husband and wife team behind Fibrenew’s successful Indianapolis Metro North franchise. Stephanie and Warren have been happily married for 23 years. When they’re not busy providing top-notch repair service for a growing, upper market clientele, the couple homeschool their two teenagers, and still find time for weekly outdoor adventures like hiking and kayaking. Joining the Fibrenew family is not this couple’s first entrepreneurial effort either–they previously owned a window cleaning business in the same region. If you wonder what it takes to share the responsibility of running a business as a couple, while retaining the ability to put time with family first, you’ll definitely want to check out Stephanie and Warren’s story:

Finding Fibrenew

When asked how they first became aware of Fibrenew, Warren recounts how he was in the middle of a career change. He had acquired his real estate licence, and after a little while realized it wasn’t quite the right fit. They were also doing some investing and fixing up rental properties at that point. Approaching their anniversary, they decided to treat themselves by fixing up their torn Natuzzi leather sofa. When the Fibrenew technician came out to service it, they were intrigued and asked lots questions about the business model. Warren dug a little bit deeper with some online research and discovered their region was an available Fibrenew territory. They did their homework and before long it was clear they had a new calling.

Challenges Along the Way

To their advantage, the Rosenthals had an existing knack for running a service-based business from their time working in residential window cleaning. However, taking on Fibrenew’s product knowledge was a bit daunting at the start. There was plenty of information to digest–everything from color matching to organizing their first shipment of supplies. It was challenging, but exciting too, and they got the hang of it all pretty quickly. Warren had received his technical training at this stage, but Stephanie had not. Her training turned out to be of a more direct nature. She learned the trade by observing Warren at work. Now she can readily answer any customer’s question when she’s fielding inquiries and setting up appointments. Read more of the story here!

Clint Covey Moves from Employment to Empowerment with Fibrenew Franchise

Gray hair and an AARP card are no longer signs of an individual close to the road of retirement. It’s becoming more and more common for individuals reaching their senior years, specifically the Baby Boomer generation, to continue their careers past the age of retirement. For Clint Covey, continuing along with his corporate career wasn’t the right option, but what was his second act going to look like? Covey had no idea.

Covey embarked on his journey from Employment to Empowerment when he quit his job as a corporate accountant in 2006 at the age of 53 thinking that he would have an easy time finding a new job. Covey found a job in consulting and simultaneously started school at Concordia University, getting his bachelor’s degrees in leadership and organizational management in an accelerated program in hopes of going the business route.

How The Entrepreneur’s Source Helped Covey

Covey was open to coaching and enlisted the help of an alternate career coach to help him explore his options. Covey worked with coach, Mike Accurso, at The Entrepreneur’s Source, to identify his Income, Lifestyle, Wealth and Equity (I.L.W.E) goals. He also while explored and learned about various business models, figuring out how they could potentially mesh with his goals, needs and expectations. He even learned about ways to fund a business.

After working with Accurso, Covey had developed a real appreciation for the synergies and systems a franchise can provide and honed in on Fibrenew, a franchise that specializes in mobile upholstery repairs and cleaning. This is nothing like Covey would have expected to become a part of, but by working with Accurso, Covey learned that this model was a mobile franchise that allowed him to make a smaller upfront investment, which helped him move forward while also meeting his I.L.W.E goals. In order to invest in his franchise, Covey decided to finance part of his franchise using a portion of his 401K, a growing trend among the Baby Boomer business owner population. Since opening his franchise in September of 2013, business has been good for Covey and he is planning on beginning partnerships with car dealerships to help clean used cars in the near future.
